Professional career

Yuri Vetkamp was born and raised in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. He studied Finance & Accounting at the Hogeschool van Utrecht. In 1995 he emigrated to Lübeck, Germany, where he lives today with his wife and two children.

After an excursion into the world of roofing – against the background of a considered takeover of his father’s company – he started his career in 2000 at Dresdner Bank Lateinamerika AG, Hamburg, Germany, where he worked as Operational and Credit Risk Controller. During this time, he qualified as a Credit Risk Manager (Controlling) at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, and at Trier University of Applied Sciences he secured Master’s certificates in Theoretical Computer Science and Database Systems.

Via the Academy of Foreign Trade, Hamburg, and the start as export financing specialist at the company CCC Machinery GmbH, Hamburg, in 2007, he began his career in the export financing world. In the subsequent 8 years he learned foreign trade and export financing from the scratch and got a very good, conservative school regarding international trade. During this time, the turnover in trade combined with short-term export financing could be increased by factor 30.

Subsequently, he worked as managing director and was later co-owner of Petersen Matex Trading GmbH, Hamburg, Germany, and Petersen Matex Trading B.V., Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. Here he trained his skills to both build and manage companies. In the 7 years in this position, the companies were able to grow again by a factor of 30.

Since early 2022, he has been working entirely within the Sunhorse Group.
